Mansfield Road, Alderley Edge | Cheshire East Planning Application
Refusal of application for 2m high timber fence above existing stone wall in a conservation area in front of existing 3m high laurel hedge.
It appears that there are a variety of boundary treatments along Macclesfield Road that may or may not have been formerly permitted in the past, but this application for a large timber fence is going to have a dominant visual impact on the roadside, taking away the much of the existing view of a large green laurel hedge which really softens the view and adds to the character of the suburb.
The fence, which is required for security and acoustic reasons should really be on the garden side of the hedge which would provide the acoustics but not be visually intrusive on the conservation area, but might not look as nice from the living room window! In this location also it is unlikely to require planning permission and certainly is likely to be approved if it does.
Cheshire East, a unitary authority in the North West of England, offers a blend of urban and rural environments. Cheshire East Council, as the local planning authority, oversees planning applications and ensures they comply with both national and local policies via its Local Plan. The region comprises 12 town councils, 90 parish or community councils and 4 parish meetings and there is a vast difference in size and profile for each, each contributing to the diverse character of Cheshire East. These administrative divisions are instrumental in shaping the local planning process, striking a delicate balance between development and conservation across the region.
