Macclesfield Road, Alderley Edge | Cheshire East Planning Application
Proposed development of a new driveway, including partial demolition of a wall and works to trees within a conservation area.
We can certainly see why the applicants would want this additional access to the front of their houses, it means that they have an ‘in’ and an ‘out’ which makes turning and manoeuvring cars a lot easier, and would also add a certain ‘gentrification’ to the main approach to the house in a prestigious area. It does look however like the existing access is good and safe, and as this proposal would affect trees and punctuate the existing wall in the conservation area which does add to the existing character, then the refusal in this situation is pretty fair. If it was an improvement which was a real enhancement of highway safety that would be a different matter.
Cheshire East, a unitary authority in the North West of England, offers a blend of urban and rural environments. Cheshire East Council, as the local planning authority, oversees planning applications and ensures they comply with both national and local policies via its Local Plan. The region comprises 12 town councils, 90 parish or community councils and 4 parish meetings and there is a vast difference in size and profile for each, each contributing to the diverse character of Cheshire East. These administrative divisions are instrumental in shaping the local planning process, striking a delicate balance between development and conservation across the region.
