Bourneside Road, Addlestone - Runneymede Borough Council Planning Application
Planning refused for alterations and extension to rear section of the roof including raising the ridge height, two side dormers and alterations to existing fenestration
This application is a bit of a challenge! The proposal is to raise the roof on the central house of three very similar houses, on a road that has a character of lots of similar houses. The proposal would create an extra room inside the roof as a master suite which is a clever idea, and it looks like next door already have a room in the roof space but with very limited headroom.
The planners have taken the view that it would be detrimental to the street scene, and although the applicants argue that it will be set back and barely visible, if this were to be approved it would open the door for many similar schemes along the road, and would inevitably change the character of the area, and not to the benefit. The houses have quite large back gardens, so there is an option to extend at the ground and/or first floor to create more space which would be more attractive. Back to the drawing board on this one.
