Innovative Scheme for new houses in sensitive Conservation Area
This scheme by Architects DHaus has recently been completed in a highly sensitive location in Dartmouth Park Conservation Area in the borough of Camden shows that it is possible to carry out new development such locations, but clearly the solution was to partly bury the scheme and mimic a set of Victorian Railway Arches.
Notwithstanding this the final scheme is visually very pleasing and it appears that the internal environment that has been created is elegant and proportional. There was clearly a lot of interaction with the local Design Panel, which always promotes interrogation of the scheme and debate, but in the end the simplicity of the scheme clearly came through.
Schemes such as this are not cheap to build, the detailing has to be carefully considered, and the material are inevitably expensive, but in locations where anything short of excellent will not gain approval the cost of the build is worth the benefit of the final scheme.
